With his project JUST PLAY, founded in 2013, Matt has documented the music and stories of over 300 musicians from cities like New York, New Orleans, Havana, San Juan, and Peru. JUST PLAY amplifies the voices of artists from the African Diaspora in the Americas, fostering collaborations between contemporary and traditional musicians in historical settings.

Just Play Puerto Rico, the itinerant musical documentary series, now brings together women artists to share their stories of struggle, music and culture. GUERRERAS PUERTORRIQUEÑAS captures the spirit of resilience among a group of women percussionists, singers and dancers in the face of natural disasters, political upheaval and a pandemic.
PERU: THE WARRIOR WOMEN OF AFRO-PERUVIAN MUSIC
The Warrior Women of Afro-Peruvian music” is an album and Latin Grammy nominated music documentary that unites a group of women artists from peru posing a challenge to racism, sexism and marginalization in peruvian society.
CUBA: TRADE WINDS CUBA
In 2015 Matt, saxophonist, producer Zé Luis and filmmaker Laura Newman traveled to Cuba to create Trade Winds Cuba. Filmed for 21 days straight, they captured the diversity of the music from Havana and beyond with over 100 artists featuring a new improvised collaboration every day.
NEW ORLEANS: TRADE WINDS
Trade Winds makes its first stop in New Orleans for a series of collaborations with some of the best artists from this culturally rich and vibrant city. The concept of improvising collaborations is ingrained into the musical culture here and Matt with producer, saxophonist Zé Luis are humbled to get to make music with a list of local legends. Filmed by Laura Newman, the team captured sessions with iconic NOLA artists Kirk Joseph, Ike Stubblefield, Johnny Vidacovich, Terrence Houston, Derrick Tabb, the Cha Wah Band and Mario Abney.
NYC: 21
21 was created in New York City 2013 as an improvised music series designed to break down the walls between artists in New York City. Matt Geraghty created the series to unite artists and create new music inspired by the two rules — Don’t Talk. Just Play. Filmed by Laura Newman, 21 was a time capsule of some of the best artists from NYC getting together for 21 days straight to make music. Featured artists include Akie Bermiss, Farah Siraj, Mino Cinelu, Lipbone Redding, Danny Musengo, Fantcha & Yami.
